Saw a Carolina Yellow Dog at Petsmart today. The owner was understandbly very proud of her dog and its heritage.

First studied and named by I. Lehr Brisbin, Jr., Ph.d., this an interesting breed of dog. Suspected of being descendants of the first dogs in the Americas, these are "pariah" dogs, dogs bordering on the fringes of domesticity and fully capable of independent wild survival.

This dog I saw was clearly highly intelligent and extremely alert to her surroundings. A real treat to sight such a rare breed here in Arizona.

Dogs aren't people, but we always impose our idea about personality and social interaction upon our beloved canines. Budiansky in his fine book The Truth About Dogs unveils that our dogs are taking us for ride, exploiting our tendency to misinterpret their intentions.
